Seek Justice Challenge, September 17...
Sammamish Presbyterian Church (SPC) is pleased to be hosting the 3rd Annual Seek Justice Challenge this September 17. The Seek Justice Challenge is a fundraising 5K Walk, 10K Run, 25 or 60-mile Bike Ride, and Kids’ Fun Run event for the greater Seattle area to heighten awareness about modern day slavery and to raise financial support for International Justice Mission (IJM). IJM is a human rights organization working to rescue victims and bring justice to perpetrators of modern day slavery in all of its ugly forms: land theft or “grabbing”, forced labor, human trafficking, police brutality and other forms of violent oppression. To be a part of the Grassroots Team to help spread the word about the SJC, visit Grassroots.
Tell One, Invite One, Encourage One.
Our greatest hope this year is to reach as many people as possible in the Sammamish and surrounding areas to tell them about this event and the issue of modern day slavery, to invite them to the Seek Justice Challenge in September, and to encourage them to donate to the cause. The mission? That every person who attends SPC “Tells One Person, Invites One Person, And Encourages One Person.” If we each make this personal commitment, together, we can create a powerful threat to those who would do malicious harm to millions of men, women, and children—most of whom are the most vulnerable and marginalized in our societies. Registration begins soon--watch for the new Seek Justice Challenge website! And don’t forget to mark this important date on your calendar now!
Helping to Free Slaves around the world...
International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local governments to ensure victim rescue, to prosecute perpetrators and to strengthen the community and civic factors that promote functioning public justice systems.
IJM's justice professionals work in their communities in 12 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to secure tangible and sustainable protection of national laws through local court systems.
IJM confronts aggressive human violence: violence that strips widows and orphans of their property and livelihoods, violence that steals dignity and health from children trafficked into forced prostitution, violence that denies freedom and security to families trapped in slavery.
IJM’s work is founded on the Christian call to justice articulated in the Bible (Isaiah 1:17): Seek justice, protect the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. IJM seeks to restore to victims of oppression the things that God intends for them: their lives, their liberty, their dignity, the fruits of their labor.
What is our commitment?
SPC is walking alongside IJM through prayer, the Seek Justice Challenge 2011 and a financial gift of $10,000 to support the Seek Justice Challenge in 2011.
