Grow

God’s original plan for us includes our maturing into people of faith who are a light to the world! This means we seek to be people who spend time with Jesus, are becoming more like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Our discipleship journey at SPC is meant to facilitate our growth through various worship, community and learning experiences. The graph below illustrates our discipleship pathway – steps on the way, as we journey together.

The SPC Institute, part of a regular learning rhythm of spiritual formation and practice, is available to the entire SPC Community.  See below for a description and information about current offerings.

We offer a variety of ways to connect and grow together:

  • Come to an event or Sunday morning worship

  • Attend a class on parenting, work, marriage, leadership or faith

  • Join an interest group, prayer group or small group

  • Serve locally with Issaquah Food Bank or World Relief

  • Serve on an international mission team, as a family or individually

SPC Institute

The SPC Institute exists to provide communal learning & growth in five major areas of our lives of faith. Every SPCer is encouraged to participate as able. Each semester, 2-3 weekly classes will be offered for six weeks, in-person and/or online. Childcare will be available for all in-person classes.

Watch for the classes that you want to take; register in advance. If you miss a course this time around, catch it next time.  SPC is a learning church; be creative in engaging these courses! Numerous small groups are choosing to attend a class together for the six weeks duration, in place of or in some variation on their usual meeting time.

Current Annual Curriculum includes:

  • Theological Foundations: The Building Blocks of Life with Jesus

  • Vocation: Work as Ministry

  • Jesus-Centered Relationships: Marriage, Parenting, Friends, Colleagues, Neighbors

  • Leadership Development: Leading like Jesus (work, home, family, friends)

  • Practicing the Way: Forming Life-changing practices & habits

Incarnate Leadership & 5 Leadership lessons from the Life of Jesus, led by Mat Philipsen & Tyler Whitworth

Using former President of Spokane’s Whitworth University Bill Robinson’s book, we'll talk through his thesis: when leaders emulate these five qualities of Jesus, they inspire and empower the people they have been called to lead.  With readings for each session, discussion questions, reflections, and opportunities for a deeper dive into the material outside of class.

Introduction to Spiritual Practice, led by Kelly Hostetler

What might it look like to let go of our efforts to manage, fix and muster up huge efforts on our spiritual journey?  To approach our relationship with God less like an “achiever,” constantly needing to improve?  We’ll consider the notion that this approach is, perhaps, exactly the opposite of what we need – that, in fact, God is inviting us into a relationship that gives us peace and rest from our striving.  Join us to learn some of the ancient and time-tested rhythms together: this communal learning experience will lead us into practicing God’s presence in rich, new ways.

Apostles’ Creed, led by Tyler Easley
