Picking Up the Towel | John 13:1–17 | The Chosen | Ranji Thomas
Pastor Ranji Thomas, introduced by Rev. Jake Medcalf as his spiritual father who led him to Jesus, greeted the church from Portland’s thriving Manna House and shared his work as a liaison supporting The Chosen. Teaching from John 13:1–17, Ranji explained that the concept of servant leadership came from Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, emphasizing the humility and cultural lowliness of the act, especially as Jesus washed even Judas’ feet. He taught that every follower of Jesus leads by example as a son or daughter of the Most High King, quoting Micah 6:8 and Timothy Keller on gospel humility. Ranji offered three points: Jesus knew who He was, washed feet that would fail Him, and put the towel in believers’ hands, calling for a response through reflection cards on whom to serve and whom to receive from.
