Message to Laodicea

Rev. Jake Medcalf concluded the “Letters to the Churches” series with “Message to Laodicea,” explaining Laodicea’s wealth, banking, eye salve, black wool, and lukewarm water to frame Revelation’s rebukes. Jesus rebuked the church for being “lukewarm” by bringing no life to its community, urging believers to be a thermostat that transforms society rather than a thermometer that merely reflects it. He also addresses the danger of wealth and comfort replacing dependence on God, calling listeners to pursue the kingdom with time, talent, and treasure. Jake emphasized that Jesus rebuked and disciplined those he loved and invited Laodicea to open the door to Christ, make room for him, and share a meal with him, ending with prayer and the song “Make Room.”
