In the final sermon of the series Lent: The Rhythm of Eremos, Rev. Jake Medcalf taught that Jesus’ invitation is not merely to believe or belong but to follow him into “life to the full,” asking, “What would Jesus do if Jesus were me?” Drawing from Luke 3–4 and Palm Sunday, he outlined a discipleship rhythm of formation, declaration, and confrontation: Jesus’ baptism and wilderness solitude shaped him to hear the Father’s voice; his return to Nazareth led to a public declaration of purpose from Isaiah—good news to the poor, freedom for prisoners, sight for the blind, and release for the oppressed; and faithful living inevitably brought confrontation, seen in rejection at Nazareth and Jesus’ protest-like procession to the temple where he flipped tables. He challenged the church to be a contrast to the world, invited attendees to take a mason jar as a reminder, and offered prayer support.
